Through awareness of the Five Human Values (Truth, Love, Peace, Right Conduct and Non-Violence) the Sathya Sai International Organisation continually practices Ceiling on Desires in order to manage and utilise the resources of the Earth responsibly. Earth Hour is one effective way of bringing the message of conservation of non-renewal resources into the public awareness.
What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is a symbolic worldwide event encouraging our global family to take action against climate change by simple things we can do at home – like consciously thinking about the way we use energy.
“The five elements – ether, air, fire, water, and earth – are the vestures of God, as well as of man. Use them moderately and with wisdom, with fear and humility. Their characteristics, for which they are sought after, are sound of the sky (representing ether), touch of wind, form of fire, taste of water, and smell of earth. Even these, sounds and others, have to be moderate if they are to confer comfort.” ~ Sathya Sai Speaks VI, Chapter 27, pp124
Loving our Earth beyond Earth Hour:
* Make use of natural light as much as possible
* Switch off lights that you don’t need
* Choose energy-efficient light bulbs to light up your home
* Unplug all appliances when they are not being used – even things that are turned off will use up your electricity!
Event: Simply switch off your lights on the 19th of March from 8.30pm onwards!
Date: Saturday 19 March,
Time: 8.30 pm – 9.30 pm
