Liquid Love is the annual blood donation drive organised by the young adults of the Sathya Sai International Organisation of Australia. The Liquid Love campaign aims to inspire people to express their inherent love for all by making blood, plasma and platelet donations a regular part of their everyday lives. The recent drive commenced 23 November 2016 and was originally set to finish 24 April 2017. Because the target had been exceeded, it was decided to extend the drive until 7 May 2017 with the hope of extra donations and introducing more people to this wonderful life-giving service.
The drive encouraged people between the ages of 16 and 70, and above 50 kg to become donors; those who are within the Red Cross guidelines.
During the drive period, 345 donations were made by members of our groups. This equates to a potential 1035 lives saved. It is hoped that those who have participated in the drive will continue to provide donations at the recommended rates. Should this be the case, 2500 lives can be potentially saved by 31 December 2017.
Whilst the drive has finished for the present, we encourage all who are capable of donating either blood, plasma or platelets to do so. This is a life saving service. Approximately a third of Australians will require a blood donation at some time in their lives, however, only about 3% of the population donates blood. Donors are always needed.
The Fact Sheet available below provides information about the different ways you can donate blood or plasma, and information about the services.
