Easwaramma Day is an annual celebration held by the Sathya Sai International Organisation to honour and remember the mother of Sathya Sai Baba. The day is also celebrated as Children’s Day. Easwaramma was an exemplary mother, whose natural love expanded under Sai’s influence to encompass all those who suffered around her. Her compassion was instrumental in Sai Baba undertaking many of His early social service activities in the district.

Easwaramma was a pious and pure orthodox Hindu village lady who over the years had to broaden her concepts of love and spirituality expanding them beyond the confines of family and community to embrace all as the phenomena of Sai Baba attracted more and more people for all different walks of life, creeds and races. Sai Baba always extoled the role of motherhood explaining that the mother was the first and a most influential teacher in a child’s life. He frequently mentioned the need to honour and revere one’s mother in gratitude for the sacrifices, nurturing and teaching that was part of her role. Whilst he day honours the principle of motherhood it is also observed as Children’s Day, as children were her particular concern.

‘Motherhood is the most precious gift of God. Mothers are the makers of a nation’s fortune or misfortune. They should teach two lessons, fear of sin and fondness for virtue. Both these are based on faith in God, being the inner motivator of all. If you want to know how advanced a nation is, study the mothers; are they free from fear and anxiety, are they full of Love towards all, are they trained in fortitude and virtue? If you like to imbibe the glory of a culture, watch the mothers, rocking the cradles, feeding, fostering, teaching and fondling the babies.

Numerous celebrations will be held throughout Australia. During the celebrations, there is often an emphasis on contributions and performances by children of the Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) classes. All are very welcome to attend these functions.
