The Ladies from NSW East Region of the SSIO will be conducting a service activity in October assembling Birthing Kits for distribution to disadvantaged women in Developing Countries. This worthwhile service not only gives ladies the opportunity to help their sisters in potentially life-saving ways, but also to meet and join one another in a loving and caring environment. All ladies are very welcome, especially those who haven’t met with the group before.
Every year staggering numbers of women and children die from preventable causes during pregnancy and childbirth. The majority of these deaths occur in developing countries. The Birthing Kit Foundation is an organisation that distributes birthing kits to vulnerable women to help enable a clean and safer birthing environment.
Different groups from the SSIO in Australia have been supporting the organisation by being involved in assembling the kits for some time now. The production and distribution of the kits fills a great need and helps prevent unnecessary deaths. Sathya Sai Baba said that ‘motherhood is the most precious gift of God.’ This cause and the present activity provides an opportunity for women to support women in realising that gift in a very concrete and meaningful way. It is also an opportunity for ladies to get together in camaraderie and share their love in a worthwhile cause.
