Sathya Sai Baba’s birthday was 23 November 1926. Since that date, His inspirational life, teachings and guidance has attracted millions throughout the world. Every year, the anniversary of His birth is celebrated and honoured by the organisation He founded, the Sathya Sai International Organisation (SSIO), through special local commemorations for which all are very warmly welcomed.

During his lifetime Sathya Sai Baba ceaselessly taught and inspired people to revere and love God. He taught that the human purpose was one of reconnection with our divine origin and that the easiest way of doing this was through developing and expanding our love for God. This could be accomplished by recognising the divine in humankind and all of creation and rendering selfless service to that divine, especially by service to the desperate and the needy. He encouraged the transformation of our lives by fostering the qualities He nominated as Human Values, Truth, Peace, Righteousness, Non-violence, and, above all, Love. His many, many service projects included schools and educational institutions, including universities, and medical facilities, including state-of-the-art super specialty hospitals all of which provided their services free of charge. He also inspired and organised a number of water schemes that are providing drinking water to millions who previously did not have access to reliable and safe supplies.

The SSIO is a body of people who are inspired by His teachings. They come from the many different faiths and honour His encouragement of the Unity of Faiths. Through His inspiration they put into practice Selfless Service to individuals and the communities in which they belong, as well as much further afield.

Every year, the anniversary of His birth is a time of celebration of His life and influence and a reflection on the legacy of His teachings.
