The SSIO, a multi-faith organisation that honours all religions observes Christmas, the holy season of Christians in a number of ways. Different regions will have special devotional meetings dedicated to Christmas, others may have special service activities that incorporate the theme and spiritual values and import of Christmas.
Christmas is a time of joy in which man’s mind turns to God with special focus on the spirit of Love and hope. Christ was the exemplar of Love, dedicating His life to humanity and teaching love for God and our fellow beings, especially the less fortunate. It is a time of a special emphasis on compassion with compassion translated into action. Our service activities have this especially in mind.
‘…when I was hungry, you gave me food; when thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was a stranger you took me into your home; when naked you clothed me; when I was ill you came to my help; when in prison you visited me.……I tell you this: anything you did for one of my brothers here, however humble, you did for me.’
Christ talking about service to man and service to God.
‘Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.……So faith, hope and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Letter of Paul to the Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 13
‘Love all; Serve all.
Sathya Sai Baba
‘All religions speak of Him as Love and attainable through love. Forms of worshipping God differ, for they are shaped by time and place but love is the content of all forms. The language of love is understood and spoken by all hearts. There is only one race really and that is the race of humankind. We now consider petty distinctions of nationality, race religion and language as vital and hold back love which must flow to everyone from the heart.
Sathya Sai Baba, December 25, 1979.
