Vishnu Prasad is an elder in the Fijian-Indian community of South-East Melbourne. He has served in the Sathya Sai International Organisation of Australia & PNG in various positions. In particular, he has been a dedicated member of the Service section of the organisation taking part in medical check-up camps, blood donations, cyclone and flood relief, visiting the unwell in local hospitals, visiting the elderly at Aged Care facilities, and helping with feeding the less fortunate ones.

He also volunteers as a chaplain in the Indian community and regularly visits members of the sub-continent diaspora in Dandenong and Frankston hospitals. As a chaplain, he works to bring the community together. He regularly took part in a Hindi Radio program where he took a multi-faith approach, telling children’s moral stories inspired by the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba, the Bible and Ramayana, a Hindu spiritual epic.

Mr Vishnu Prasad is a long-time volunteer at Wesley Mission, where he actively participates in the ‘Do Care’ service initiative of the Mission by visiting the elderly and the lonely.

One of his hobbies is quilt making which he picked up after retirement. Through his creations he contributes to “Quilts of Valour”, a not-for-profit organisation supporting Australian Defence Force personnel, veterans and their families.

He is also a Justice of Peace volunteering at Police Stations, and taking time out to drive himself to the elderly in nursing homes to have their important documents witnessed.
Sharing and bringing happiness to other people is what keeps Mr Vishnu Prasad going. “You see the people’s happiness. Their faces light up, and their happiness is our happiness,” Vishnu comments.

The 2016 Victorian Senior of the Year Award in Promotion of Multiculturalism was handed over to Vishnu by The Hon. Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria.

We congratulate Mr Vishnu Prasad on his achievements and recognition for his devotion and service to the community by the Victorian Government. God Bless You.
