An environmental awareness project is under way in the NSW East Region of the Sathya Sai International Organisation of Australia & PNG. The project is aimed at reminding us that much of our superseded possessions and materials can have another life and thus reduce wastage, land-fill and possibly provide someone else with something they can profitably use. Recycling reduces the demand on our precious earth resources in many ways and the environment they are harvested from. This is part of the SSIO’s ongoing commitment to ‘Serve the Planet.’
The project starts on Global Earth Day and consists of a recycling drive collecting a number of items for redistribution or recycling including; spectacles and sunglasses, printer cartridges, mobile phones and plastic bags.
A fact sheet available for download details the environmental and social advantages of recycling the items. Some of the benefits mentioned are not what one would normally imagine.
Items can be collected at a number of events being held and advertised separately; Sri Sathya Sai Aradhana Mahotsavam, Easwaramma Sai Wonderland, as well Unity Meetings for the region and individual centres.
The drive continues from 22 April until 31 July 2017.

Today the world is losing its ecological balance as man, out of utter selfishness, is robbing Mother Earth of her resources…. Human life will find fulfilment only when ecological balance is maintained. Balance in human life and balance in Nature, both are equally important. – – Sathya Sai Baba 2003
