Sathya Sai Baba, after 84 years, left His body on 24 April 2011. The anniversary of this event is commemorated worldwide by those who value and follow His teachings and example of unconditional love and selfless service to humanity.
During the many years that Sathya Sai Baba spent with us, His ceaseless examples of loving selfless service to humanity, His teachings of the Oneness of God and the unity of faiths, and the universal Divinity with us has transformed millions. He taught we are not born for a life of self-gratification, rather to realise the Divinity within us and to reflect our true nature by practising the values of Love, Truth, Peace, Righteousness and Non-Violence and to serve those in need without expectation or desire for recognition or reward. His teachings and guidance lives on in those who choose to follow Him. Members of the SSIO observe the day by reflecting on Him and His teachings with love and gratitude for our good fortune to have been brought within His influence. Events commemorating this day will be held by SSIO throughout Australia.
‘Love all beings—that is enough. Love with no expectation of return. Love for the sake of love. Love because your very nature is love. Love because that is the form of worship you know and like. When others are happy, be happy likewise. When others are in misery, try to alleviate their lot to the best of your ability. Practice love through selfless service. By this means you will realise unity and get rid of the ego that harms. – Sathya Sai Speaks 12.4, 5 March 1973
