The ACT Region of the SSIO is continuing its support of the valuable work undertaken by the Birthing Kit Foundation with another day in June set aside to assemble Birthing Kits for distribution to expectant mothers in developing countries. The kits are potentially life-saving items for mothers in areas of minimal or non-existent support for child birth, areas of high infant and birthing mother mortality rates.
Several regions of the SSIO Australia are engaged in this support activity, with the ACT involved with it for a few years. The activity is being jointly supported by the Young Adults and Service Wing of the ACT groups.
The materials are supplied as bulk items which need to be put together to create individual kits. Each kit contains 7 essentials for safe and hygienic home births.
The experience of the kit assembly days has been one of camaraderie in which all join together in a supportive group doing something positive for those beyond our immediate physical reach. All are welcome to come and assist. Details follow.
