Ladies Day is annually observed by the global Sathya Sai organisations. It is a sacred day dedicated to women in honour of their pre-eminent role in the family and society as instruments of love, compassion, forbearance, righteousness, and selfless sacrifice. Women have the power to change the world by their example and teachings.
Sathya Sai Baba initiated Ladies Day on 19 November 1995 and it is a permanent event in the SSIO calendar. Sai emphasised the sacred and crucial role a woman plays in society and the need to specially honour this with gratitude and respect. Women in many areas are discriminated against. Baba has addressed this inequality calling for better opportunities for women to excel.
Women… are not encouraged to show their ability. Even in the family, they have to face obstacles and confrontations. If women are given due recognition and encouragement, they will shine with brilliance in all fields and will serve the house, country, and the entire world gloriously, contributing to the welfare of the entire humanity.” – Discourse, April 19, 1998
Today the biggest challenge many women are facing is navigating the responsibilities of their career with their prime role of home maker and motherhood.
Many have found Sai Baba’s teachings life changing. They stress the need for inner reflection and transformation by developing good and worthwhile qualities that lead to greater self-confidence, inner calm, inner strength and vitality. This results in being able to deal more effectively with life’s challenges and brings balance, as well as enhanced feelings of wellbeing, acceptance, kindness and love.
As today is a sacred day dedicated to women, they should change themselves and help to change the men and the children. They should develop the qualities of sympathy, compassion, love and sacrifice. Study the lives of our great women who were models of patience, fortitude, compassion and sacrifice. I desire that you should take up the reins of leadership and bring peace and prosperity to the nation by leading ideal lives.
