The Sathya Sai Centre of Westmead from NSW Region West of the SSIO has adopted a village in Sri Lanka providing a range of services to uplift the community. This is part of an international programme by the SSIO identifying a number of communities that can be adopted and assisted within the resources of individual units or regions.
‘Spend the years of life, the wherewithal you earn or possess, in service to others who are in distress. Love grows on such service. Service is the sincerest form of adoration of God.
Sathya Sai Baba, 15 May, 1971
‘You should merge your welfare with the welfare of the world. How can you be happy when your neighbour is in misery? Therefore, I call upon you to give up praying for your own advancement. Pray for peace, prosperity and happiness for all humanity, irrespective of clime or colour.
Sathya Sai Baba, 7 October, 1970
As an offering of love to Sathya Sai Baba on the 95th Year of his Advent (2020), the programme titled ‘Global Adoption of 95 Communities’ has been initiated by SSIO to be carried out in a sustainable manner. The goal of this project is transformation of the heart – for both SSIO volunteers and the recipients of the service, as taught by Sathya Sai Baba. Sathya Sai Centre of Westmead aims to provide aid to selected projects identified by SSIO Northern Province, Sri Lanka in line with the region theme of “Expansion in Love and Expansion in Sai”.
A number of essential services have been identified including repair of homes, provision of toilets, repairs to the community well, livelihood projects, education and support for impoverished children.
The project will be run on an annual basis subject to review from 23 November to 31 December and overseen jointly with the SSIO in both Australia and Sri Lanka.
Anyone interested in participating in the project may contact NSW Region West Service Coordinators, Ashwin Chetty: 0430 271 409 or Sakthivel Vettivelu: 0406 679 982
