At Easter, one of the holiest periods in the Christian calendar, Christians around the world celebrate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ remembering the sacrifice He made through His death on the cross for all of humanity. Christ’s life and message of love and service to our fellows is something to reflect upon during this difficult period we are currently experiencing.

Sathya Sai Baba, talking about Jesus, said He taught simple, practical lessons, supported through his own example of compassion and love, demonstrating how we can cultivate these divine qualities. Jesus served the poorest of the poor and taught his followers that whenever we serve the needs of the poor, the needy, the hungry and the diseased, we are serving God:

Jesus stressed the importance of compassionate service as exampled by the following from the Bible

Jesus taught

Then shall the King say to those on his right hand,

“You have my Father’s blessings; come blessed and enter and possess the kingdom that has been ready for you since the world was made. For when I was hungry and you gave me food; when thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was a stranger you took me into your home, when naked you clothed me; when I was ill you came to my help, when in prison you visited me.”

Then the righteous will reply,

“Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and fed you, or thirsty and gave you drink, a stranger and took you home, or naked and clothed you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and come and visit you?”

And the King will answer,

“I tell you this: anything you did for one of my brothers here, however humble, you did for me.”
