To mark Aradhana Mahotsavam Day on 24 July, the anniversary of the passing of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, SSSIO ACT Region undertook a service activity of assembling birthing kits on Sunday, 28 April 2024.
The Birthing Kit Assembly Day activity was organised by the Service Wing of the ACT Region. The service was done to support ‘The Birthing Kit Foundation of Australia’, an organisation dedicated to providing a clean and safe birthing environment for women around the world who for reasons of isolation, cultural choice, or poor transport have little or no assistance during childbirth. By providing a clean birthing kit, these mothers will have the resources to reduce infection and its possible dire consequences.
On a crisp Autumn morning, the activity commenced at 9.30 am at the Senior Citizens’ Centre in Turner in the ACT with 35 participants. The program began with a dedication to God followed by a demonstration on how to undertake the activity. The participants were divided into groups of 4 to 6 at each assembly tables, with members in each table working together to assemble the items shown below into a kit.
The participants completed the assembly of 400 kits by 10.30 am. The program concluded at 11.30 am with spirited devotional singing followed by a simple lunch.
Birthing kit Assembly Days are an activity regularly undertaken by other groups of the SSSIO in Australia. Members engage in, not only a worthwhile form of social activism, but, following the inspirational teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba on practicing Love and Selfless Service, further their spiritual connection with all.
