Sydney Winter Drive for the Homeless

On the 4th of August, members of the SSSIO NSW Region came together in collaboration to pack and deliver useful materials and warm food to members of the community who are living it tough on the streets of the Sydney CBD.

Love must be manifested as Service. Service must take the form of food for the hungry, solace for the forlorn, consolation for the sick and the suffering.

-Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, 25 December 1981

The Ladies team prepared 30 warm meals while the Sai Spiritual Education families packed dental hygiene items, protein bars, wet wipes and water bottles with blankets and pillows into individual packs to be distributed. The Service and the Community Engagement teams with Hurstville Sai Centre procured the blankets and pillows and sanitised them prior to assembly day.

The Young Adults team contributed by joining the Service team to walk the streets of Sydney CBD to distribute the packages. Many who received the items were grateful and happy to be receiving warm food, water and the other items, especially in winter.

The NSW team is now planning to continue this activity on a monthly basis, with every centre taking turns to participate and contribute their services each month.
