Blood is the very essence of life, a precious resource that cannot be manufactured, but only shared from one human to another. Recognising this vital need, Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation of Australia & PNG, Victoria Region conducted a service initiative: Liquid Love on November 29th at Lifeblood Melbourne.
The impact of blood donations is profound. Donated blood provides critical support for cancer treatments, surgical procedures, the management of blood disorders, and ensures safety during pregnancy and childbirth. It is great that the group can potentially have such a tangible impact on the lives of those in critical need.
Five donors were available on the day. Given the strict eligibility criteria for blood and plasma donation, whilst small in number, this turnout was still a meaningful result. A special highlight was witnessing a young member donate blood for the very first time, marking the beginning of their journey in this service. While some regular donors could not attend this specific session, the larger donating group has maintained a consistent effort throughout the year, donating both whole blood and plasma, with a pledge to continue this commitment.
During this year the ongoing service has been undertaken to commemorate Sathya Sai Baba’s Centenary Celebrations, directly fulfilling Sai’s directive to serve society, with blood donations a specific area of service highlighted.
“Every drop of your blood is the contribution of your parents. You owe your existence in this world to the love of your parents. Hence, whenever there is a need for blood donation, you should come forward to donate your blood. Thereby fulfil your obligation to your parents and society. Do not ever work for your selfish interests.” — Sri Sathya Sai Baba (Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 37, Discourse of 1.1.2004)
