On the 16th of June, the Vibhuti Cup sports event was held by NSW Region of the SSSIO in Sydney from 11 am to 4 pm. The games have now found their place in our NSW Region’s yearly calendar due to great interest from members.
True humanness blossoms only when the body, the mind and the spirit are developed harmoniously. The enthusiasm and effort which you display in sports should also be manifested in the spheres of morality and spirituality.
-Sri Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 23 (1990) 14 Jan 1990
Swami has clearly said through His discourses that a healthy body is a healthy mind, especially when we are on a spiritual journey. This year, approximately 60 members including SSE children from the ages of 5 attended and participated in the games.
A new addition to this year’s game was lawn bowling, which proved to be a crowd favourite, especially amongst senior members. Football teams comprised of fathers and sons, uncles and nephews, teachers and students, as well as mates all being competitive but playing with underlying values of love and care. Many ladies, young adults included, participated in netball and the enthusiasm across the court could not be missed.
Throughout the games, great sportsmanship was exhibited, and Swami’s presence and warmth was radiating all day through each member present. Volunteers prepared sumptuous healthy sattvic meals which were served with loving smiles. The evening ended with beautiful bhajans led by adults, young adults and SSE children, followed by a simple gift ceremony. Senior members were invited to hand over the gifts to all participants which privilege they accepted delightfully.
