Special Service activity commemorating the 100th year since the birth of Sathya Sai Baba.
The Sathya Sai Centre of Woolloongabba of the SSSIO Queensland Region conducted two special service activities in November to commemorate the birth of Sathya Sai Baba. These included contributing to the ‘Share the Dignity’ campaign and a special feeding program for those in need.
The 23rd of November this year marks the 100th year since the birth of Sathya Sai Baba, the founder of the Sathya Sai International Organisation. To mark this occasion units of the organisation around the world have been conducting special community service activities to commemorate the occasion. This is often in addition to their usual regular community service. Sathya Sai constantly impressed upon those who heard or read his discourses, that service to the needy was a highly important activity for those seeking spiritual growth. It promotes love, compassion, understanding and empathy for our fellow travellers on earth.
Woolloongabba Centre in this capacity contributed to a campaign focused on assisting women in difficult circumstances, such as, family violence, homelessness or poverty, with basic provision of necessities to help maintain their dignity. This was a particularly suitable service conducted to coincide with a day set aside by Sathya Sai to honour women for their many beneficial roles in the family and society, Ladies Day, celebrated on the 19th November each year. 142 bags of necessities were packed with included cards filled with positivity and loving thoughts for the recipients. These were then delivered to the local collection site during the celebrations.
The ladies from the centre also prepared and distributed food boxes to contribute to ‘Community Friends’ at Westend catering to those in need. The preparation of the meals included the important ingredient of loving wishes and thoughts. It was interesting to find one of the recipients asking when offered the food, ‘Did you all put love into it?’ which solicited the truthful answer of, ‘Yes!’ sending him smilingly away with his meal.
