A group of devotees visited Prasanthi Nilayam in 1982 and Swami Blessed them with interviews. They were also instructed to start a spiritual group in Melbourne. The Sri Sathya Sai Centre of Melbourne was thus founded on 30 March 1983. Since then, the Centre has welcomed thousands of devotees from Australia and across the globe and organised several worthwhile service activities.

On 30 March 2023, the Centre passed an important milestone: its 40th anniversary. This was celebrated with a special program on Sunday, 2 April at the seat of the Centre, in South Yarra, Melbourne, Victoria. Many devotees across the state were invited to join the celebrations and to share their memorable experiences. The program comprised of devotional singing, a walk down memory lane with stories of the Centre and a discussion on the future plan for the Centre.

Around 80 members joined the celebration. The National Council President was also in attendance on the day. Members shared their connection with the Centre over the years and were very pleased to re-unite with some devotees not seen for several years. Everyone enjoyed the celebrations and wished the best for the continued success of the Centre.
