NSW Region: Feeding the homeless

Commencing in August 2024, NSW Region of the Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation of Australia & PNG commenced a monthly program of feeding and providing other necessities to the homeless in the Sydney CDB area.

The program is evolving in trying to determine and provide necessities for these unfortunate people, as well as providing healthful meals prepared with love and compassion. Over the months since it was started, a roster of the different groups in the larger Sydney area have taken on the preparation and distribution of hot meals, bottled water and breakfast requirements, with adults, young people and children participating in the service.

To date seven different centres of the SSSIO as well members from two different programs have been involved in the activity. In the months of March and April, the Region’s Normanhurst and Carlingford Centres provided the service. Volunteers gathered in the city to serve hot meals, along with drinking water and Up & Go breakfast drinks, to individuals experiencing homelessness. The meals were carefully prepared and distributed with love, offering not only sustenance but also dignity and human connection to those in need.

The SSSIO has several food distribution services for the homeless and those struggling around Australia that are serviced according to the capacity of the groups involved. For instance, Melbourne Centre has been providing a service for some decades, whilst Perth WA also has a long-standing program.

Since this NSW initiative started last year, the groups about Sydney have served an estimated 270 packs, providing comfort and compassion in the heart of the city.

The members are grateful for the opportunity to serve and remain committed to continuing this humble offering of love in action. They are pleased to bring their youths and young children along to learn the valuable lessons of selfless service to those in need.
