NSW Region Ladies Program Report – SAI Cushions Service Project
The NSW Ladies Program of the SSSIO conducted a service project in May creating special cushions to support women at Westmead Hospital recovering from breast cancer surgery. Styled ‘Sai Cushions Project’ that initiative resulted in 150 cushions sewn, filled, and delivered.
The program followed an earlier one in January 2026 through the Zonta Club initiatives for the same purpose with a similar result. Subsequently, Westmead Hospital reached out due to a shortage of cushions for their recovering patients. The May activity was a response to this need, with the service activity completed at the Sri Sathya Sai Centre of Five Dock.
The day was marked by a wonderful atmosphere of love, unity, and collaboration. Members from across the region, including men and women, young adults, and children from the Sai Spiritual Education program (SSE), who all worked side by side in a spirit of selfless service. It was particularly heartening to see the enthusiastic participation of the young adults and SSE students, who eagerly learned and contributed to the sewing and assembly of the cushions.
The ambience throughout the day reflected Sai’s teachings on unity and service. Participants shared skills, encouraged one another, and worked harmoniously to achieve a common goal. No prior sewing experience was required, and volunteers readily supported each other, creating a joyful and inclusive environment.
Through the collective effort and dedication of all involved, the cushions were successfully completed and delivered. These specially designed cushions provide comfort and relief to breast cancer patients recovering from surgery, helping to ease pain and support their recovery journey.
The project was a beautiful example of hands-on service, demonstrating how even simple acts of love can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
