National Birthing Kit Assembly 2026
Serving with Love : Supporting Safe Births around the World
Groups throughout the SSSIO in Australia came together to have a national service supporting the Birthing Kit Foundation in its life-saving activities for women and children at risk in childbirth situations in areas of inadequate medical services.
The SSSIO’s National Ladies Program and National Service Wing warmly invited all regions of SSSIOA to participate in the National Birthing Kit Assembly Project, a service initiative honouring 20 years of the Birthing Kit Foundation Australia. Members generously sponsored birthing kits and volunteered their time to assemble the kits, containing essential items required for a clean and safe birth. The event ran simultaneously across multiple states and locations in Australia over the weekend of 13 and 14 June 2026. In total, 1250 birthing kits were assembled. The project offered a meaningful opportunity to come together in unity and love to support safe motherhood for women in vulnerable communities. This service highlights the importance of access to a clean and safe birthing environment for women worldwide who have little or no assistance during childbirth.
In Sydney, 60 members from different SSSIO Centres across the NSW region came together on the morning of Saturday, 13 June in the spirit of love, dedication and service to society to assemble 400 birthing kits. They all worked collaboratively, demonstrating teamwork, accuracy and efficiency by carefully assembling and packing the kits in 1.5 hours. This service activity reflected the Sai ideals of selfless service, compassion, and care for humanity.
In Perth, for the very first time, 11 members participated assembling 100 birthing kits. The programme commenced with prayer for all beings in all the worlds to be happy. The assembly was done with immense joy and dedication.
Sunday, 14 June was a cold Canberra morning, but 40 members enthusiastically participated in constructing 200 birthing kits. The program began with a demonstration, then the participants were divided into groups of 4 to 6, working together to assemble the kits.
In Melbourne, members of all ages joined in a spirit of love and service, carefully assembling the kits while learning about the challenges faced by mothers and newborns in resource-limited communities. 350 birthing kits were assembled by 25 members. The event was a meaningful expression of unity, compassion, and service to humanity.
Members from Brisbane gathered in support on Sunday 14 June afternoon. With enthusiasm and a spirit of service, 21 members assembled 200 birthing kits.
The assembled birthing kits will be distributed to expectant mothers in disadvantaged communities, helping to reduce the risk of infection during childbirth and contributing to safer maternal and infant health outcomes. Through this service activity, SSSIO members were able to make a meaningful contribution to global health and well-being.
Beyond the physical support these birthing kits provide, they carry a deeper message of care, hope, and global unity, reminding us that even the simplest acts, when done with love, can make a profound difference in the lives of others.
The National Birthing Kit Assembly Project was a successful and inspiring service activity that brought together SSSIO members in the spirit of love and selfless service. The dedication of all the participants demonstrated a strong commitment to helping mothers and babies in need, while reinforcing the Organisation’s values of compassion, unity, and service to society.
Special appreciation is extended to National Birthing Kit Australia for providing the opportunity to participate in this significant service initiative marking its 20-year milestone.
