Melbourne Centre – Tree Planting for Our Koala

On 15 August, members of Sri Sathya Sai Centre of Melbourne got their hands dirty for a very special cause, creating a safer, greener future for our Koalas. About 20 members of the Sri Sathya Sai International Organisation (SSSIO) were joined by 30 other community members to plant 1200 trees along a very important koala corridor in Pearcedale, Victoria.

This event was organised by the SSSIO with the Westernport Biosphere Foundation . Koalas face important threats to their survival, one of the most critical being the loss of habitat providing food and safety. Koalas have a diet restricted to a few tree species. The plantings of the day included important native koala food trees and other local plants to help restore habitat and create important connections between areas of bushland. Every little tree planted today can become food, shelter and a stepping stone for wildlife tomorrow. It was a wonderful reminder that conservation isn’t just about protecting what we have — it’s also about giving nature a helping hand to recover from previous destruction.

One tree at a time, one koala at a time, we can make a difference.
