Om Sai Ram,
With Swami’s abundant grace and blessings—and guided by His declaration that “The Vedas are the gift of God for the welfare of the entire humanity”—the Veda-chanting initiative was inaugurated on Swami’s Aradhana Utsavam day, 25 April 2020. It began as a virtual YouTube program, dedicating one hour every Saturday morning from 8:00 to 9:00 AM. It is now available on the SSSIO Australian website https://saiaustralia.org.au/vedam/.
In the initial phase, devotees chanted Āditya Hṛdayam, Namakam, and Chamakam, followed by short talks. These chants were contributed by SSE children, YAs, and Adults across Australia and broadcast as a national offering in the dedicated SSSIO Australia Vedam channel on Saturdays.
On 1 January 2022, the program evolved to include the meaning and significance of important Vedic mantras and other commonly chanted shlokas, beginning with the Śhānti Mantras. Brother Sriraman Annaswamy providing the contextual word by word explanations (consistent with Nirukta, one of the six Vedangas, limbs of Vedam). Over time, the sessions covered:
● Six prominent Śhānti Mantras from the Upanishads
● Sāvitur Gayatri
● Ganapati Atharva Śīrṣasam
● Purusha Sūktam
● Nārāyaṇa Sūktam
● Bhū Sūktam
● Durga Sūktam
● Bhāgya Sūktam
● Nārāyaṇa Upanishad
● Sūrya Upanishad
● Viṣṇu Sūktam
● Śrī Sūktam
● Guru Stotram
● Mantra Puṣpam
● Ganapati Mantra
● Dakṣiṇāmūrti Stotram
A major milestone was the 52-session journey through Sri Rudram, including 41 sessions on Namakam and 11 sessions on Chamakam.
Following this, we completed the detailed meaning of the Viṣṇu Sahasranāma and have now commenced Śrī Lalithā Sahasranāma. With Swami’s continued blessings, we have reached our 186th session and towards the fifth year at the end of 2026.
This platform is an ideal place for SSE children to contribute, and we warmly encourage SSE children, YAs and adults to join us using the web link above on Saturday mornings at 8.00 am AEST to participate and contribute in this sacred Vedic chanting program.
