On Sunday, 25 January, the SSSIO NSW Region Ladies, Men and Young Adults successfully carried out a community service activity focused on the creation of 140 breast cancer cushions for patients at Westmead Hospital. This initiative was undertaken in partnership with the Zonta Club and aimed to provide comfort, care, and practical support to individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Activity Details

The project was completed in several stages, demonstrating strong teamwork and dedication:

· Initial preparation: The SSSIO NSW Region Ladies initially sewed the cushion covers, carefully added tags, and attached ribbons in preparation for final assembly.

· Service day activities: On the day of the activity, with the support of beautiful ladies, men, and enthusiastic Young Adults (YAs), the team:

o Filled the cushions

o Weighed each cushion to ensure consistency

o Hand-stitched the openings to securely finish each cushion

Outcome

A total of 140 breast cancer cushions were successfully completed and prepared for distribution to Westmead Hospital. These cushions will be provided to breast cancer patients to assist with comfort during treatment and recovery.

Conclusion

This service activity reflects the commitment of the SSSIO NSW Region Ladies to compassionate and meaningful community service. Through partnership with the Zonta Club, this initiative has made a tangible difference in supporting breast cancer patients at Westmead Hospital. As Sai Baba reminds us, “Hands that help are holier than lips that pray.”

This project truly embodied that spirit of selfless service through action, love, and unity.
