Guru Poornima was commemorated in the ACT Region on Sunday, 26 July 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Senior Citizens Centre Hall in Turner.
The program commenced with Athe, Regional Devotional Coordinator and the Master of Ceremonies, warmly welcoming approximately 60 Sai followers who had gathered on a crisp Canberra winter morning to celebrate the sacred occasion of Guru Poornima.
As part of the celebration, attendees brought bags of groceries to be donated to OzHarvest, a food rescue and assistance charity. This meaningful service initiative, conducted for the second time this year, supports local Canberra residents facing food insecurity due to the rising cost of living and reflects the Organisation’s commitment to selfless service.
The altar was elegantly decorated with a simple blue and white backdrop, complemented by fresh yellow and white flowers, creating a serene and devotional atmosphere.
The first item on the program was an engaging Sai teachings themed trivia session organised by the Sai Young Adults. The activity tested participants’ knowledge of their spiritual journey with Sai through five interactive rounds, including multiple-choice questions, illustration-based identification, and individual questions for adults. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) children participated in picture recognition and a lively mime game. Attendees were divided into four groups, and everyone enthusiastically took part. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba often reminded us, “Life is a Game, Play it.” Learning through fun, love-filled activities created a joyful atmosphere while reinforcing spiritual values in a memorable way.
The SSE children then recited prayers invoking Lord Ganesh and Guru filling the hall with devotion.
This was followed by vote of thanks delivered by Bro. Govind, Regional President of the Sathya Sai International Organisation in the ACT Region. In addition to expressing gratitude to the Sai Young Adults and all the volunteers who contributed to the success of the event, Bro. Govind provided an update on recent national activities and shared information about upcoming initiatives in the ACT Region.
The celebration continued with vibrant and uplifting devotional singing led by a combination of SSE students, Sai Young Adults, and adult followers. Their heartfelt offering of bhajans inspired devotion and joy among all present.
The celebration concluded with the offering of arati, followed by the distribution of vibhuti. Attendees then shared a light fellowship meal lovingly prepared and served by members of the Ladies’ Program, consisting of sandwiches, pastries, stir-fried chickpeas, and cake.
The Guru Poornima celebration was a joyous occasion that combined devotion, learning, fellowship, and selfless service, leaving all participants inspired to deepen their spiritual journey and continue living Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings of love and service
