SSSIO Australia, Tasmania Region celebrated Guru Poornima on Saturday, 1 August at the Ross Supper Rooms, part pf the Ross Town Hall. The event commenced at 11.00 am and concluded at 4.00 pm.
Devotees from the groups at Hobart and Launceston travelled to the small township of Ross midway between the two groups to enable a combined celebration of the special event. They were joined with 4 distance-isolated members from across the state.
A total of 17 participated in the celebration including two of the member’s children.
A rousing devotional singing session was the start of the day preceded by Gayatri chanting. Following a shared vegetarian lunch provided by the members, the afternoon consisted of an address about Guru Poornima focused on the special grace we all have received in this lifetime being born at the time of the influence and guidance of the Avatar. Grace that was earned over many previous lifetimes, and the need not to waste this special opportunity to take advantage of His guidance to propel ourselves along the path to fulfillment of our human birth.
We had a reading of one of Swami’s inspiring letters and two poems contributed by devotees. This was followed by the group forming a semi-circle around the altar and each having the opportunity to mention a quote or teaching of Swami’s that particularly resonated with them and explaining its impact. Alternatively, they could briefly describe some insight they had gained over the last 12 months. This activity was quite special with many of the quotes and explanations affecting those listening.
The meeting was closed with the group joining in 3 beautiful songs, including one of our favourites, ‘May the Love We’re Sharing’.
A beautiful, inspiring day in which we all were able to connect with our distant Sai family members.
